Canopy Growth donates $100,000 to Forests Ontario

Forests Ontario has a new corporate partner. Canopy Growth, based in Smiths Falls, stepped up to support the organization. The provincial government cancelled the 50 Million Tree program, run by Forests Ontario, in April. The Ferguson Forest Centre (FFC) in Kemptville was a primary supplier for the program, which represented about 40% of its business.

Canopy Growth donated $100,000 to Forests Ontario today. The cheque presentation was held at the FFC.

MPP Steve Clark thanked Canopy for demonstrating what tremendous corporate citizens can do. He noted the company has provided an incredible economic boost to the region and has been an outstanding community partner.

Canopy Growth CEO Mark Zekulin says the partnership was a perfect fit because both parties know a lot about growing. He explained the company is blown away by what Forests Ontario has been able to accomplish since 2008. Zekulin noted the progress the organization has made towards planting 50 million trees across the province is truly astounding. He says Canopy is excited to partner with Forests Ontario through an employee tree planting initiative.

Forests Ontario CEO Rob Keen noted it’s amazing to see groups, corporations and organizations with common visions come together. He says it all starts with a seed and it will be fantastic to nurture the relationship moving forward.

Chief Advocacy Officer Hilary Black says one of the central pillars of Canopy Growth is ‘growing good together.’ She explained this means reaching out beyond the company’s walls and working with neighbours to enrich communities where employees work and live. Black says it was an obvious and easy choice to support the work done by Forests Ontario and the FFC.
