Theft at Brockville Public Library leads to two arrests

A theft at the Brockville Public Library resulted in two people getting arrested.

The Brockville Police Service (BPS) say on Wednesday officers responded to a theft complaint at the library around 12:40 in the afternoon. A person had left their cell phone in one of the charging stations and it was gone when they went back to get it. The suspect was identified through CCTV footage and the male was located just after two, according to police. BPS says the 20-year-old was arrested for theft and held in custody as he was on a bail release from previous charges.

Police say a 42-year-old male from the Cobourg area was located with the 20-year-old. He had been previously identified as a suspect in a theft from the LCBO on Parkedale Avenue, police say. He was arrested for that theft and a search led to the discovery of a quantity of counterfeit US bills. He was charged for being in possession of those bills.

BPS says these bills have been circulating throughout the city and they are easily identifiable as they have oriental writing on them.
