Local singer-songwriter up for Josie Music Award

Cory M. Coons is heading to Tennessee. The local singer-songwriter was nominated for the 2019 Josie Music Awards. His latest album, ‘The Long Road Home,’ is up for Male Album of the Year.

Coons says the ceremony is being held in Pigeon Forge (Dollywood) on September 21. He noted there were around 20,000 submissions for the Josie Awards this year.

Coons was recently recognized by the International Singer-Songwriter Association for his single ‘Would You Stay.’

He says the album encompasses his journey as a musician, which started in the early ‘90s touring with cover bands in Eastern Ontario. Coons has been producing original music for 20 years, releasing his first solo album titled ‘From The Ground Up’ in 2004.

He says he feels like he’s back home with his roots and the album brings it full circle.

Coons worked with multi-platinum record producer Ron Nevison on the ‘The Long Road Home.’ He is performing on Friday night at the South Mountain Fair, starting at 10:00pm.
