Community musical fundraising for local Shakespeare festival

A famous musical will be performed by locals to help raise money for the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival.

The organizers of the festival have been working with local performers to perform the musical Cabaret at St. Andrew’s Church in Prescott. Director of Cabaret, Richard Sheridan Willis, says this is one of the main fundraisers for the festival with 100-percent of ticket sales going to it. The musical will be happening from August 22nd to 24th.

Willis says performers from Prescott, Spencerville, Brockville and Kingston make up the team of over 30 who are putting on the show. The show will also include an eleven person orchestra.

Willis says there are adult themes in the show but people of all ages can attend.

“People get afraid of Cabaret because they think of the sexual content and that isn’t what the play is actually about, so we’ve taken that out. It’s basically just telling the story and singing the music with the dancing and everything else.”

Tickets are 25 dollars and can be purchased on the festival’s website here or by visiting their office at 206 King Street West in Prescott.
