Upper Canada District School Board will receive nearly one million more in funding this year

The Ontario Government has increased the funding to over $342-million for the board making it the largest allocation in its history.

The province says the funding is to help students get the crucial support they need and ensure success continues now and in the future.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce adds they recognize that many students face mental health adversity and they take that responsibility seriously.

“I am proud to stand with Minister Clark as the government more than doubled mental health funding and has increased funding for our students with special needs to the highest levels – for French language programming and for transportation.”

Lecce says students should not have to suffer because of poor administrative decisions by school boards, adding that while school boards make their own decisions on staffing, class offerings and resource allocation, they do expect them to put the urgent needs of students first. That includes mental health supports in the classroom.

He says the Government is building on their “Education That Works for You” plan by supplying students with the skills they need, including an emphasis on the skilled trades and STEM-related disciplines.
