Local firefighter planning triathlon across Canada to raise money for children’s hospitals

Edwardsburgh/Cardinal firefighter Justin Turrin is planning a cross country triathlon to raise money for children’s hospitals in Canada.

Turrin says he is planning to begin next June with a swim across Lake Ontario to Toronto. From there he will cycle to Vancouver and back to Brockville. From Brockville he is planning on running to Newfoundland and back to Ottawa. Turrin says this will be the world’s longest triathlon and estimates it will take him around four to five months to complete.

Turrin says he wanted to do this because he has a special needs brother and knows what it is like going to places like children’s hospitals.

“You probably drive by these places until it’s one of your loved one’s that’s super ill or whatever and it becomes almost a second home in an instant and I feel like these places don’t get enough credit for what they do and how they help the families and the children.”

He says he’ll be stopping by children’s hospitals all throughout his journey and 100-percent of what is raised will be going to multiple children’s hospitals. So far Turrin says he has about a dozen hospitals in mind that he would like to donate to.

Turrin says his goal is to raise as much as possible for the hospitals. Anyone who would like to donate can donate now through his GoFundMe page here.
