Prescott waiting on signs before new King Street intersection lights can operate

The Town of Prescott is now just waiting on new signs before new lights can operate on King Street.

The intersection lights are already up on King Street at Centre Street and George Street, both are not operating yet though. The intersections are still four-way stops. CAO/Treasurer Matthew Armstrong says one of things the town initially noticed when doing the tests of the lights, was that people were confused going from a four-way stop to a two-way stop. Armstrong says they are getting custom signs made up to say “cross traffic does not stop” and they will be put on the north and south side of the intersections. He adds the only time the King Street traffic will stop is when a pedestrian hits the button and the lights will go from green to orange to red.

Armstrong says the town was told those signs were going to be in last week and they are still waiting for them, so they’re hoping they will be in sometime this week. He says if they do come in this week, they will be scheduled to go up sometime next week. Permanent stop signs will also be put into place when the signs are installed.
