Local runner competes in Mexico, preps for Nationals

Zac Bowness is back from Mexico, where he went up against some of the best runners in North America. He was 1 of 50 athletes selected to represent Canada at the 2019 North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association U18/U23 Championships. The competition was held in Querétaro, from July 5 to 7.

The 17-year-old, who lives in Prescott and attends St. Michael Catholic High School, placed 11th in the 400m.

Bowness says it was a great experience and the other athletes were very good. He met runners from Jamaica, Mexico, the Bahamas and the United States.

Bowness says his goal is to make Team Canada again next year. He also hopes to make the Junior Pan American Games. Bowness says he’ll be working on endurance in order to achieve that goal. He is heading to Nationals in Nova Scotia at the beginning of August.
