Free ‘Be AdventureSmart’ event happening at FFC

The Friends of the Ferguson Forest Centre invites the public to learn more about wilderness survival. The group is hosting a ‘Be AdventureSmart’ event on July 20. There is no cost to attend. The event includes a program geared to kids between the ages of 5 and 12, called Hug-A-Tree & Survive. It teaches kids how to avoid getting lost in the woods and what to do if they get lost.

Chair Liza Duhaime says it’s important for kids to pick a spot and not leave, whether outdoors or in a public place. She noted it’s important not to wander because it makes it difficult to pinpoint your location.

There are two sessions for Hug-A-Tree & Survive, at 10:00am and 1:00pm, and people can get tickets by clicking here

The second part of ‘Be AdventureSmart’ involves Rideau Ground Search and Rescue, which will be doing a mock grid search around 11:30am.

Duhaime says it will be narrated and people can follow along. She noted the group will be using the trails and going through the arboretum to locate clues.
