It’s a done deal. Aquaworld Resort and Convention Centre purchased the 260-acre property on Merwin Lane just outside of Prescott. The $900,000 deal closed yesterday.
Developer Stefano Ferrante says it’s good news. He noted buying the land is a great step forward.
The $115-million project includes a 140-room hotel, convention centre, indoor water park, outdoor spa and kids’ zone.
Ferrante says the next step is rezoning the land. He explained his planner put together a specific zoning provision called Aquaworld zone, which lists all primary and secondary uses for the property. Ferrante says it will be a custom zoning bylaw, set to come forward for approval at a town hall meeting in September.
Aquaworld is on course to break ground in the spring of 2020, according to Ferrante. Construction will take between 20 and 24 months, with a goal of opening in 2022. Ferrante says the project will create around 400 permanent jobs and thousands more temporary construction gigs.
