Local Girl Guides will be raising money for a trip through a “Strawberry Social and Concert” event.
The event is taking place this Saturday at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Brockville starting at 1:30 in the afternoon. The cost is $10 per person and Leader Cindy Groenewoud says it is fundraising for the International Girlguiding Jamboree in the United Kingdom next year. Groenewoud says there will be 11 girls going to the camp.
“There’s going to be over 6,000 people there and the girls are going to be learning how to sail and they’re going to be rock climbing and caving and lots of wonderful things.”
Groenewoud says they are going to go to camp and then the girls would like to go to London to go into Pax Lodge which is a girl guide’s house. The fees for this trip cost $4,000 per girl. The groups that will be taking the trip are the Brockville and Merrickville Pathfinders and Rangers.
During the event on Saturday, the St. Paul’s Choir will kick-off the event by singing for a half hour and then strawberry shortcake and a variety of drinks will be served in the church hall.
Tickets will be available at the door on Saturday.
