TISS athletes named best in the province

Five Upper Canada District School Board students took home gold from the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) Track and Field Championships. The competition was held June 6 to 8 in Guelph.

Two students from Thousand Island Secondary School (TISS) won gold medals. Wyatt Knapp, grade 11, placed first in the Senior Boys pole vault, jumping 4.20m.

Grade 12 student Benayo Olak took home gold in Senior Boys triple jump with a jump of 14.38m. The TISS men’s team was awarded the overall Men’s OFSAA champions.

Kaylee Clark, grade 10 student at Gananoque Secondary School, took home gold in Junior Girls javelin. She threw a personal best of 41.73m, which was 3.71m farther than the silver medalist.

Rebecca Dobbs, of Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School, won gold in Women’s Shot Put. Spencer Lewis from Carleton Place High School took home gold in Junior Boys Shot Put.

UCDSB Chair John McAllister says it’s a great accomplishment to be a top high school athlete in all of Ontario.
