Prescott organizations looking to help splash pad through rain barrel sales

Update: The pick-up date has been extended and will now take place on Thursday, June 27th from 5:30 to 6:30 in the evening at the Operations Centre (950  Sophia Street).

Local organizations are making sure there’s no drought in fundraising for Prescott’s new splash pad.

Prescott Communities in Bloom and the Splash Pad Fundraising Committee have partnered to sell rain barrels. The money from the barrel sales will be going to the new splash pad.

Prescott’s Tourism and Recreation Coordinator Katie Forrester says theses barrels are used to save money while watering your garden, grass or indoor plants.

“Using rain water instead of tap water for outdoor use reduces your water bill and can also improve the growth and vitality of your plants by feeding them rainwater instead of municipal treated water. Rain barrels may also reduce the risk of basement flooding.”

Forrester says people can pre-order rain barrels in different sizes and colours beginning at $55 through Rain Barrel’s website here. Each barrel comes with a leaf and mosquito filter basket, an overflow adapter, a spigot and an overflow hose.

The pre-ordered barrels will be available for pickup on Thursday, June 2oth at the Prescott Operations Centre at 950 Sophia Street between 3:30 and 6:30 that evening.

Anyone with further questions or needing assistance can contact Forrester by calling 613-925-2812 extension 6210.
