Local Food Champion program launches

It’s Local Food Week in Ontario. The provincial government launched a new program to celebrate. The Local Food Champion program recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses that demonstrate leadership by putting local food on the table for people in Ontario.

MPP Steve Clark says we’re fortunate to have an abundance of local food in Leeds-Grenville. He noted with farmers’ markets opening across the riding, there’s no better time to buy local.

Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, says the Local Food Champion program is a celebration of hard-working farmers, food processors and entrepreneurs who are committed to ensuring more local food is available to everyone. He says when people buy local, they’re making a choice to support local communities and the provincial economy.
