Kemptville Campus discussion opens floor to ideas

Over 100 people attended the Kemptville Campus discussion forum. The event was held last night at the W.B. George Centre. Campus tenants, including Ryan’s Well, Catered Affairs and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, were introduced.

CAO Brian Carré went over how the Municipality of North Grenville came to own the campus, dating back to the announcement by the University of Guelph to shut it down.

Mayor Nancy Peckford discussed the not-for-profit board, established to run the Kemptville Campus. The board currently consists of three members, including Peckford as chair, Carré as secretary-treasurer and Stéphane Vachon (with Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario) as director.

The next step for the campus is developing a master plan. Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman says this is just the first conversation. He says the municipality wants input from stakeholders and community members going forward.

The floor was opened up to the public for comments, ideas and questions. Attendees asked about post-secondary education opportunities, establishing museums, offering music programs, dedicated community spaces and heritage designation for buildings.

For more information about the campus, contact the municipality directly by calling 613-258-9569.
