New owner hopes to turn former NGDHS into community hub

The new owner of the former North Grenville District High School is batting around ideas for the property. Ken Demelo, President ICON Insulation Inc, says one idea is using the building as an incubator for entrepreneurs.

He says providing cheap retail space, on a month-to-month basis, could help people out who can’t afford leasing.

Demelo bought the property in March, after the Upper Canada District School Board deemed it surplus. He says there are no plans to tear the building down.

Batting cages and ax throwing are other possibilities. Demelo noted the gym could be available to rent. He says he’d love to turn the property into a community hub.

Demelo says once the project gets rolling, he’ll be open to ideas from the community.
