Mental health walk-in clinic for youth can serve more kids

Children’s Mental Health of Leeds and Grenville (CMHLG) launched a new walk-in clinic last month.

“The uptake of the walk-in clinic has been good, but we can see more children and youth,” says CMHLG’s Executive Director Lorena Crosbie.

The clinic runs every Wednesday from 11:00am to 7:00pm at the CMHLG office, located at the corner of Clothier and Rideau. It is open to anyone 18 years and under. There is no cost to the service.

“Families may only want or need a single walk-in appointment, or they may utilize the clinic while waiting for other services,” noted Crosbie.

The walk-in offers children and youth an appointment with a counsellor to focus on behavioural, emotional or mental health concerns. CMHLG facilitates if additional services are needed.

The clinic was the first service introduced through the Mental Health and Addictions Health Hub for Children and Youth. The hub, initiated by the Kemptville District Hospital (KDH), is a collection of 20 community partners.

CMHLG also has a walk-in clinic in Brockville, located at 779 Chelsea Street. For more information about CMHLG services, call 1-800-809-2494 or click here.

There is also support for parents. Another hub partner, Parents’ Lifelines of Eastern Ontario (PLEO), holds a monthly support group at KDH for parents and caregivers of children and youth with mental health or addictions challenges. The group meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the hospital.
