Over 280 hospital volunteers recognized

Brockville General Hospital (BGH) held an appreciation tea for its 280 plus volunteers. The event took place on April 11 in recognition of National Volunteer Week.

BGH Board Chair Jim Cooper says the hospital’s volunteers are often the first people patients and families see. He says volunteers make the hospital better by offering a smiling, welcoming face and eagerness to help alleviate stress.

Volunteers contributed over 28,000 hours last year, helping out with day surgery, palliative care and the Wagon Gift Shop.

The Brockville General Volunteer Association donated over $110,000 to the hospital in 2018. The money was used to buy new medical equipment.

BGH President and CEO Nick Vlacholias says volunteers provide immeasurable value to the hospital, staff and patients. He says they are a big part of daily operations and allow the hospital to provide better care.
