RNJ Youth Services looking for volunteers

Adult volunteers are needed for the Choices Program, run by RNJ Youth Services. The program starts mid-April at St. Michael Catholic High School in Kemptville.

Executive Director Sue Poldervaart says Choices is a partnership with Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health. She says the 10-week program is open to youth between the ages of 12 and 17. Poldervaart says its an early intervention drug education and awareness program.

The program provides a safe space for youth to learn positive coping strategies, problem solving and goal setting skills in a non-judgmental environment. Volunteers will work with youth to build on strengths through interactive and fun activities, as well as group discussions.

Poldervaart says the organization is looking for adult role models, who have an interest in helping youth and genuinely enjoy spending time with them. She says RNJ Youth provides the training.

Volunteers must be available weekdays and commit three hours per week for 10 weeks.
