The 47th annual Leo Boivin Midget tournament will be held in Morrisburg this month.
Chair of the showcase committee Vicki Sargeant says the committee wants to take the Leo on the road to a temporary venue until they can bring it back to Prescott. Sargeant adds the committee looked at several locations but often arenas are booked ahead of time. She says the Morrisburg arena was chosen because it has a lot of history as the Leo Boivin did and it best encompassed everything the committee felt the tournament offers.
“Our committee is very, very determined to keep the spirit of the Leo alive and prosper it until it can return home and we’ll be as excited as everybody in Prescott when we can bring it back.”
The event kicks off on Wednesday March 20th with the fourth annual Ottawa Senators alumni game dubbed the “Leo Boivin Classic,” according to Sargeant. The first tournament game will be on Thursday night. The opening ceremonies will be on Friday night at 7:30. The finals will be played on Sunday March 24th.
Sargeant says location will really be the only difference in this year’s showcase. Sargeant adds they believe that this is the best midget hockey tournament that anyone can attend and hope that everyone can continue to support.
A weekend pass to the tournament costs $20 and the admission for the alumni game is $5.
