UCDSB welcomes Syrian refugee students and their families to area schools

The Upper Canada District School Board says they are well prepared for incoming Syrian refugees. To date, the UCDSB has welcomed three families into their Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools and the TR Leger School of Adult, Alternative and Continuing Education.

Superintendent Tim Mills says they have been advised that incoming refugees will have higher needs than those coming from other countries, due to the difficulties they have faced in their resettlement. He says the board’s Immigrant Services Branch has staff experienced in receiving newcomers. Along with community partners, the board will help to ease the transition for these students and their families.
