Leo Boivin Fundraising Committee looking at making second tier of volunteers

The Leo Boivin Fundraising Committee says they may have another volunteer tier.

Committee member Judi Baril says with a fundraising goal of almost $3.5-million they are going to need as much help as they can get. Baril says fortunately there have been several user groups who have come forward and are interested in helping.

The second tier will be groups of people who are interested in doing some of the special events, canvas among the business community and help out at the committee level, according to Baril. She adds people who are interested can contact her by calling 613-925-3751 because their names will have to be approved by Council to be on the committee.

Baril says there aren’t any fundraising events lined up yet, but tonight the committee will be presented with two cheques at the Council meeting. One will be from the GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign for the Leo. The other will be the proceeds from the New Year’s Eve dance put on by The Row, according to Baril.

Other fundraising opportunities the committee has discussed and have estimated how much will come from them include: naming rights ($2.6-million), advertising ($480,000), in-kind donations ($40,000), a Leo brick sale ($25,000), four special events in two years ($100,000) and direct mail ($100,000). Baril adds they will be looking into multiple grant opportunities as well.

Baril adds they are planning on having a public meeting once the Engineer’s drawings come back and they have a cost for what the total rink will come in at. She estimates the meeting will be held next month.
