Town of Prescott looking into creating Marina Advisory Commitee

The Town of Prescott is discussing creating a Marina Advisory Committee.

It was a unanimous vote to recommend Council approve establishing the committee. The committee would be made up of one Council representative, two staff members from the town and at least two marina users.

Prescott’s CAO/Treasurer Matthew Armstrong says the idea came about after meeting with a number of boaters.

“They presented some ideas around how we could make it more efficient, some things that we needed to address and some things that they saw that we could change in how to operate the marina.”

Armstrong says a vast majority of the boaters in the marina are from out of town. He adds Prescott thinks this committee will be a great addition because it will make the experience of using the marina as good as possible while also making sure they’re able to maximize the revenue. Armstrong also adds the number of people in the committee could also increase more than just five.

Multiple Councillors voiced their support for this, including Ray Young and Mike Ostrander. They say some complaints they have received in the past were heard at the end of the season and have been simple to fix. With this committee, the complaints will hopefully be addressed earlier in the season.

Young volunteered to be the Council representative on the committee. The final vote to approve this committee will be at the next Council meeting.
