Runciman appointed chair of St. Lawrence Parks Commission

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC) has a new chair. Senator Bob Runciman was appointed to the position on Tuesday. His four-year term begins immediately.

Runciman is a veteran politician and was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1981. He’s held many cabinet positions, including Solicitor General, Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations and Minister of Economic Development and Trade.

Runciman was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 2010 and served until 2017.

MPP Steve Clark says Runciman is the perfect choice to lead the commission. He says no one understands the region better or the importance of supporting local tourism and quality of life.

The SLPC provides recreational, cultural and heritage and tourism opportunities along 200 kilometers of the St. Lawrence, including Upper Canada Village and Fort Henry.
