Berry fundraiser going to support repairs at local church

A fundraising campaign is looking to help cover costs of repairs at a local church.

The Friends of St. John’s group is selling berries until February 20th. The berries have been frozen and are from Nova Scotia and Chile.

Group Member Bonita Slunder says the group is focused on preserving the St. John’s Anglican Church building. She adds the money raised will go towards roof repairs. Deb Hayes is another member of the group and says sometimes the slates fall off the roof.

“The roof was repaired about 20 some years ago but it was never replaced. So we’re looking at 157-year old slate.”

Slunder adds if slates slide off and break it is hard to find replacements for them.

A four-point-five pound bag of cranberries costs $16, blueberries are $21. Raspberries come in a five pound package and cost $29. The berries will be available for pickup in Prescott and Maitland on February 25th.

To order berries call Hayes at 613-925-4967 or order online here.
