O’Reilly’s Independent serves breakfast to Wellington Elementary Students

Students at Wellington Elementary School in Prescott enjoyed a free breakfast this morning.

O’Reilly’s Your Independent Grocer supplied the breakfast to around 200 kids. Owner Chris O’Reilly says his store has participated in the “Raise a Food Lover” program for two years now. He adds it’s important to have students come together.

“You know as kids we always eat together in schools. Eat together with our friends, and as we get to be adults and migrate into work we seem to separate ourselves and isolate ourselves from that. And it’s a great way to get together and just eat and enjoy that part of life.”

Wellington Principal Ray Westendorp says this program is important because it helps students build a sense of community.

“It allows them to see that breakfast is important. It allows them to see that we’re a family here as a school (and) eating as a family is a really important thing.”

O’Reilly says the Loblaw Company is big on nutrition for kids and he is a full supporter of that. Last year, the breakfast was served at South Edwardsburg Public School in Johnstown. O’Reilly adds over 90 Loblaw stores will be participating in the program this week.
