Critter Cabs looking for volunteers

The group Critter Cabs is looking for volunteers to drive rescue animals in this area.

Volunteer Kendra McIntosh says the group is made up of drivers who help deliver animals to shelters in Ontario and Quebec.

She says the group has been operating since October 2015 and is currently in desperate need of drivers from Cornwall to Kingston. McIntosh says organizers will post the runs they have on the Critter Cabs Facebook page. People who are able to make a drive can sign up for a specific run and everyone will keep in touch until the animals get to their destination.

An example of a run is McIntosh has driven from Cornwall to Maitland. She then transfers animals from her vehicle to another driver who then takes them to Kingston and will meet up with another driver who takes them to a specific animal centre.

They have runs usually five to six times a week and it’s 100-percent volunteer. McIntosh says animals come in from all over the world.

“We have two mastiffs that just came in, so sometimes we need people with just bigger cars to transport some of these bigger animals.”

McIntosh explains currently they have 200 drivers who give up their time, gas and wear and tear on their vehicles. Last year around 1,200 animals were driven to shelters through this group.

Anyone looking to volunteer can reach out through their Facebook page here.
