Prescott’s Building and Bylaw Manager says department is looking to go electronic

The first six months have been busy for Prescott’s new Building and Bylaw Manager.

Shawn Merriman was appointed to the position in June 2018. He says the town is now working to use less paper within the building department using programs already purchased.

“They (the Town of Prescott) had purchased some programming for the department that wasn’t being utilized completely. We’re to the point now where everything is in the computer quickly and efficiently.”

Merriman adds still to come is electronic inspections. He says instead of leaving a paper copy of the review of an inspection, it will be emailed to someone.

Merriman says he has also been asked to look over many of the bylaws for Prescott, especially the fairly older ones. He explains the sign bylaw was extremely outdated and hopefully will be going to Council in the next month for review. Merriman says the town wants to have the bylaws up to date and reflect what is needed in town.
