Play structure raffle raises $12,300 for local fire departments

Three local fire departments will get $4,100 each thanks to a play structure raffle. Lockwood Brothers Construction built the fire truck play structure to raise money for the North Grenville Fire Service, Merrickville Fire Department and Edwardsburgh-Cardinal Fire Department.

The raffle wrapped up Friday. Cardinal resident Julie Schultz won the play structure.

Owner Corey Lockwood says he was hoping to raise between $6,000 and $7,000 for each department, but is happy with the amount.

The money will be used to buy smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors for people who can’t afford them.

Lockwood says he hopes the dollars will help less fortunate people in the community.

The structure will be dropped off at Schultz’s house Christmas morning.
