Resources available locally to support gender equity: Health Unit

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is reminding the public that gender identity and expression is an important community conversation.

Health outcomes are at risk when gender limits access to services, education, employment, housing and social inclusion, according to the Health Unit.

The organization says a person’s gender may be male, female or somewhere in between. The Health Unit says people may choose to express their gender through appearance or behaviours.

The Human Rights Code prohibits gender discrimination and harassment in employment, services, housing and contracts.

The Health Unit says resources are available locally to support gender equity. The LGBTQ & Allied Youth Drop In is held every Tuesday at the Brockville Public Library from 4:00 to 5:30pm. For more details, contact Brandy by calling 613-342-3936 or Linda by emailing [email protected].

Health Unit nurses are LGBTQ friendly and will help support people to make the right decisions about your sexual health. Intake and assessment forms at Sexual Health Clinics include an opportunity for self-identification.
