OPP rescue therapy dog that fell through ice

OPP officers saved a therapy dog. The owner of the dog called 9-1-1 around 11:00am this morning. The incident occurred on the Tay River.

OPP Communications Center personnel captured the GPS of the cell phone.

Lanark County OPP Constable McNames, a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Constable Lefaivre, of the Snow Vehicle, All Terrain Vehicle, Vessel Enforcement / Education Unit (SAVE) responded.

The dog, named Teddy, was 25 feet from the shore line when officers arrived.

Constable Lefaivre, with a line attached, crawled onto the ice. After Teddy was lifted to safety, the ice broke and Constable Lefaivre was completely submerged. Constable McNames hauled him to the surface and he was able to get back onto the ice and then the shore line.

Neither Teddy nor the officer required medical attention.
