Canadian Blood Services puts out call for donors

There is a shortage of blood donors for an upcoming clinic. Canadian Blood Services is running a clinic in Kemptville on Monday. It is being held at the W.B. George Centre from 1:30 to 4:00pm and again from 5:00 to 7:30pm. About 60 appointments are still open.

Territory Manager Mary Ann St. Michael says during the winter months, and especially around the holidays, the need for blood doesn’t end. She says demand is high but there are less people coming out to the clinics.

The clinic is being held in honour of a local 8-year-old undergoing cancer treatments. Abigail Hosick (pictured) was diagnosed with Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in January 2017.

St. Michael says all blood types are needed, but there is a specific need for O Negative. She says O Negative is compatible with all blood types and is often used in emergencies.

People who have never donated blood can take a short quiz online by clicking here to see if they would make a good donor. The process of donating blood takes about one hour from start to finish.

If you have any questions, call Canadian Blood Services directly at 1-888-2DONATE.
