Alaine Chartrand is Guest Speaker at Girls Workshop

Prescott figure skater Alaine Chartrand will be speaking at a girl’s fitness and leadership workshop.

LifeFit Athletics will be holding the workshop on December second at Thousand Islands Secondary School. It is for girls aged 11 to 15. Organizer Laura Sivers says they chose those ages because it is when a lot of girls stop participating in physical activity.

“So, we’re hoping that if we can inspire them to continue developing leadership through activity and enjoy it, (then) we can keep people active and inspired in our community.”

Chartrand is the 2016 National figure skating Champion and has won many other medals from competitions. Sivers says she was chosen because she is a great role model for girls.

“She’s been involved in sport her whole life. She’s worked hard she’s from the area and has accomplished so much on the world stage.” Sivers adds just recently she’s skated in two international competitions in a two week span and she’s also working on her Kinesiology degree at York University.

During the workshop, Sivers explains there is going to be team building activities, leadership activities, a guest yoga instructor and games.

Sivers says this is the first time the workshop has been put on but they would love to continue this as an ongoing series bringing in more guest speakers.

The camp runs from nine to four that day. It costs $60 to register. The link to sign up can be found here.
