Town of Prescott Looking to Extend Integrity Commissioner Appointment

Prescott’s Committee of the Whole recommended continuing the appointment of the Integrity Commissioner.

The report to the committee says Council appointed Andrew Tremayne as the town’s Integrity Commissioner in April of 2017. The appointment was for the remainder of the 2014 to 2018 term of Council. The position is to give advice and train members of Council. The commissioner also responds to complaints if someone believes a Council member violates the Council Code of Conduct. The recommendation is to extend the appointment until it is revoked by Council.

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville will be sending out a request for proposals for a Joint Integrity Commissioner in 2019. The report says the Joint Integrity Commissioners are common in smaller municipalities and could have cost savings. Prescott will be getting involved in this but the town says it has the option to opt out at Council’s direction when the results are known.

Councillor Lee McConnell noted that Tremayne does not cost anything to the town unless his services are required.

The final vote will come at the next Council meeting on November 26th.
