Lorraine Rekmans focuses on cost of living, climate change

Green Party candidate Lorraine Rekmans is making a bid for the MP seat in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. The seat has been vacant since the death of Gord Brown in May. The federal by-election is set for December 3.

Rekmans says the biggest issue facing people in the riding is debt. She the cost of living is something that impacts everyone.

Rekmans says the Green Party is the most fiscally conservative when it comes to economic policies. She says the party is looking at introducing a national pharmacare program to address the increasing cost of medicine.

Rekmans says climate change is the main issue. She says the government needs to take action and be forward-thinking.

If elected, Rekmans says her first move would be to introduce herself to fellow MPs in order to be the voice of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.

Rekmans says her work with civil society, industry, indigenous communities and government qualifies her for the job. She says building bridges is the key.

The My Prescott Now newsroom will be interviewing all federal candidates this week. The other candidates are Michael Barrett (Conservative), Mary Jean McFall (Liberal) and Michelle Taylor (NDP).
