Spirit of Giving Campaign Begins Today

The Kinsmen Club of Prescott’s Spirit of Giving Campaign is back.

Students from South Grenville District High School will be going door to door for donations between six and eight tonight. The students will be looking for non-perishable canned goods, money donations and new toys. The collection will begin in the North East end of town, between Edward Street, Boundary Street and Churchill Road. They will also be out on November seventh, 12th and 14th in Prescott. Students will also be collecting in the Light up the Night Christmas Parade on the 16th.

Collections will be happening in Riverview Heights on November 19th, Maynard on November 21st, Maitland on November 26th and 28th, Johnstown on December third and fifth, Cardinal on December 10th and Spencerville on December 12th. All collections are scheduled to happen between six and eight each night. Donations can also be mailed to the campaign to PO Box 1150 Prescott ON K0E 1T0. Drums will be placed in local stores, businesses and schools to collect non-perishable food items.

Co-Chair of the campaign, Art Hitsman, says last year the campaign raised just over $7,000. The costs for the campaign were over $10,000. He says they have been lucky to have a slash fund in the account but notes it won’t last long if fundraising comes up short each year.

They expect the perishable items will cost around $10,000 this year. Over 300 families typically register to receive help from the campaign every year.

All items from the campaign will be collected on or before December 14th.
