Light Up The Night Christmas Parade Coming Up

Santa will be coming to Prescott in two weeks.

The 65th annual Light Up The Night Christmas Parade will be happening on Friday, November 16th. This is the 20th year it will be at night.

Parade Chairs and Fire Fighters, Chris Veltkamp and John Henry, gave a presentation at the Prescott Council meeting on Monday night. Veltkamp says the route will be the exact same as last year’s, beginning at South Grenville District High School. Veltkamp adds there is no charge to enter the parade and no preregistration is needed. Floats are recommended to be at the school around six that evening to start the parade at seven.

Henry says they are focusing more on music after public feedback has suggested there hasn’t been enough in previous years. Henry says they are encouraging people to incorporate music into their floats. In previous years, there have been seven bands but Henry says this year they have 10 booked for the event.

Veltkamp says they are still accepting donations for the parade to cover the cost of bands as they are expensive to book. They will be accepting donations all the way up to the 16th. He also says this will be the third year Tim Hortons in Prescott will be selling Smile Cookies the week leading up to the parade. Proceeds from the cookies will go towards the parade.

This year is the first year the public can nominate someone to be the Youth Ambassador for the parade. Nomination deadline is this Monday. The winner will ride in a Prescott Fire Department truck during the parade. For more details about the youth ambassador visit the Fire Department’s Facebook page here.
