Piccolo Cafe Owner Wins Immigrant Entrepreneur Award

The first woman to win the Leeds Grenville Immigrant Entrepreneur Award is from Prescott.

Magdalena Duris owns Piccolo Cafe Plus and won the award this year. This is the fourth time the award has been given out and it’s also the first time it’s gone to someone from Prescott.

Duris was in her home country of Slovakia when the award was announced, so she wants to thank everyone for the support especially the anonymous people that nominated her. The cafe has been in Prescott for over a decade and Duris says their motto is you have to give your business at least five years to get established in a town.

“Since we’ve been here, there were a few (businesses) that open and close. But the people that do their research, they know if you want to succeed in anything you have to give. It doesn’t matter if you make money or lose money, you have to and then you can take it from there.”

Duris adds it has been nice getting to know people in the town over the years.

Piccolo Cafe is at 180 King Street West in Prescott.
