The Assault Response & Care Centre is offering new services such as male and female support groups and female peer support services available to individuals living in Leeds Grenville – and they’re free of charge. Manager Laurie Bourne-Mackeigan says a recent funding boost of $27,800 will be used to shorten wait times and to start a peer support service
The peer support worker can accompany clients on doctor’s appointments if needed, while offering regular counselling opportunities.
One in four women are sexually assaulted. And a lesser-known statistic is that one in six men are victims of sexual assault. Bourne-Mackeigan says the funding has allowed the ARCC to offer a unique support group geared toward the male victim of sexual assault or domestic violence.
The Assault Response & Care Centre is a program of Brockville General Hospital. Visit their page on Facebook or contact them directly for more information on programs and support groups for men and women of all ages.
