Fulford Academy Is Planning To Expand

Fulford Academy in Brockville is planning on adding more space to the school.

Doctor Tom Steel is the Head of the school and says the designs, architectural drawings and financing is arranged but they are just waiting until they are given a date to start building. He says the expansion will include a new student dorm for up to 180 students. Steel adds new classrooms are also included in the expansion.

“Some science labs, robotics labs, an art studio, there is a library resource centre and a special conference room for teaching.”

Steel says there will also be a gymnasium which will be out along King Street and they will be hiring more teachers and support staff for sure. He explains they have outgrown the school five years ago and have since had students living off campus. Steel says he believes the project is earmarked to cost around 13.5 million.

He says the vision of the new owners is to use the Brockville academy as a proving ground for the integration of the curriculum being used in their home country, Turkey. The curriculum is very science and technology based.

“But we’re special in that we’re going to be the place where we’re going to develop the curriculum and policies and procedures. Then they’re going to internationally set up schools, but they won’t be called the names of the schools back home, they’ll all be called Fulford Academy.”

Steel notes they are well into developing the curriculum already.

He says there is about seven and a half acres on the property and the owners are looking forward to getting this project going. He estimates construction won’t begin any sooner than around spring time.
