Councillor Candidate Ray Young Focuses On Arena And Town Facilities

Ray Young is running for Council in Prescott. He has been on Council for the last 12 years.

Young says the rink has to be dealt with. He says it will be the big issue in next year’s budget deliberations. He adds there might be a couple of options the town will look at and it will be the most expensive project that the town has faced in a long time.

Young also says back in November and December of last year, a team of engineers and architects looked at all of the town’s infrastructure and pointed out all of the deficiencies.

“Some of them we knew about, some of them caught us completely off guard. It’s safe to say that every one of the facilities require some work. Some major, some minor.”

He explains these are fire code issues, building code issues, handicap accessible issues and the town has to deal with them. Young adds the water tower was a complete surprise with it having a life of five years. Young mentioned all the facilities in town will need to be worked on include the baseball diamonds, tennis courts and Walker House.

He says he thinks there are a couple of issues that are coming up in the next four years that council will need some experience with to help in the decision making process.

Young explains that because he has been on council and in business for over 40 years he has the experience needed. He says he’s seen some of the highs and lows and hopes to help address them in the next term of council.

The My Prescott Now newsroom will be interviewing Councillor candidates for Prescott over the next week. The 2018 Municipal Election is set for October 22.
