Councillor Candidate Sandra Iseman Focuses On Proactive Planning

Sandra Iseman is running for Council in Prescott. She says she believes the town needs a proactive planning agenda in place.

Iseman says the official plan is outdated and it needs sweeping changes. She says her concern is that the way the town grows and changes won’t be the way the town decides but by external forces, saying it could be by people that want to profit like developers. She says if anyone should profit from Prescott it should be us.

“We have a hockey rink we’ve got to build, we’ve got a water tower we’ve got to replace. We have a town that’s being renovated. We just finished a fire hall, we also want a splash pad. We’ve got a lot of things on our wish list, right? And we all want a great community.”

She says to be proactive the town has to figure out how it wants to grow and make conscientious decisions instead of being reactionary.

Iseman says she’s very passionate about the community and has always been a community advocate. Another priority Iseman has would be having bicycle paths connecting municipalities around the area saying it could really boost the tourism industry. She also says the town should make sure there is something for everyone in Prescott, whether it’s a hockey rink, splash pad, dedicated bike lanes in the town and making sure it’s safe for people to walk.

She says her Masters and PhD in Urban Planning has helped her to examine how to take a policy and put it into practice, which she says is important in town decisions.

The My Prescott Now newsroom will be interviewing Councillor candidates for Prescott over the next week. The 2018 Municipal Election is set for October 22.
