Prescott Looking Into Truck Parking In North End

Town staff is looking into the costs of more no parking signs in Prescott’s north end.

Shawn Merriman is the Manager of Building and By-Law Services for Prescott and gave a report to the Committee of the Whole last night.

Merriman says 200 parking tickets have been issued in Prescott up to the end of August this year, compared to 65 in 2017. The report says the majority of tickets can be credited to being able to ticket on private property when requested.

Merriman says By-Law Enforcement are keeping eye on commercial trucks. They are looking at cost of bigger signs that are also bilingual because over half of tickets were issued to Quebec truckers.

A gate idea was brought up by Merriman who says a resident brought it to his attention. Merriman explains the gate would be used to deter trucks to park after hours in the area. Mayor Brett Todd says he’s not sure the gate would send the right message. He adds if area is blocked off in snow storms then traffic could be backed up onto ramps and elsewhere.

Merriman says an issue for the stores in the area was snow plowing when there were vehicles around. Merriman adds both stores did not reject the idea but there are still more discussions needed before anything is set in stone.
