Think Rink Fundraiser Happening Saturday

Update: The Think Rink Fundraiser will include a live auction with Ottawa Senators items. The items to bid on include: three pairs of lower bowl tickets to the San Jose and Ottawa game, two autographed Senators jerseys, box seats for 16 people at a Vancouver and Ottawa Senators game and an opportunity to play the Ottawa Senators Alumni at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Prescott’s new arena will be getting a boost thanks to a fundraiser this weekend.

Windmill Brewery and the Town of Prescott will be hosting a family friendly fundraising event on Saturday. The event will be happening from noon until five in the afternoon. It will be at the brewery on five Newport Drive in Johnstown. There will be live music from HappyCrap, Ryan James, Sue Prosser and U Other 2.  A silent auction will feature items like Sens clothing and tickets.

Dana Valentyne is the Economic Development Officer for Prescott and says people will have a chance to buy the naming rights to a seat in the new arena in Prescott. Valetyne says the rights will cost $250 and people will get to choose what is written on the seat’s plaque.

“They can either just simply put their name, they can purchase it in memory of a loved one. Maybe a favourite athlete they’ve had at the arena and have enjoyed watching over the years, basically you have free rein.”

The details will be finalized of how many characters will be allowed on a plaque after this weekend’s event.

Valentyne adds they will be looking into exploring other seat options, contributor wall and opportunities to contribute to the new arena through things like the ice pad and score clock.

“We’re hoping to generate a good little kick-start to this fundraiser and see where things go from there and hopefully based on the interest in the people that come out it might encourage some others to do similar events.”

Donations for the new rink will be accepted at the event and Prescott will be issuing tax receipts for donations of $10 or more.

Sean Lucey is the Owner of Windmill Brewery and says they don’t want to see Prescott go longer than necessary without hockey or figure skating. “I grew up in the area and I know how much that rink means to the area, whether it’s the Midget AAA Tournament or figure skating event or just having family skate. So, I wanted to be a part of the effort to make sure a new one gets built.”

All the proceeds from the silent auction and barbecue will be going to the silent auction. Lucey adds a portion of the proceeds from drink sales will also be going back to Prescott.
