Prescott the first in United Counties to pass municipal budget

The Town of Prescott may be the first municipality in the United Counties of Leeds Grenville to finalize a budget for 2016. Acting CAO and Treasurer Robb Wittkie says council approved the new municipal budget on Monday night, with a tax levy that was lower than first projected.

Wittkie says the 2.7% tax levy includes transfers from the operating budget to capital reserves to fund three main capital projects this year.

The total project cost of the new fire hall is estimated at $3.5 million. $1 million has been allocated this year for land purchase, design and tendering. Identified in the Asset Management Plan as having some of the oldest infrastructure in town, St. Lawrence Street is a priority this year.
