The St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival has gotten a financial boost thanks to golf.
Between five and six thousand dollars has been raised for the annual festival. The first ever fundraising tournament for the Shakespeare festival happened on Monday (September third). James Richardson is the General Manager of the festival and says the money from the tournament goes to help with the operations of the company, including next year’s events.
“Our summer productions, whether that’s our youth training programs or our community show. It goes into (the) rest of our general pool where it’ll go to one of the different activities we do.”
Around 70 golfers participated in the event. Richardson adds they are very happy with the tournament turnout number, especially for the first time event. Richardson notes that he and Richard Sheridan Willis, who is the Festival’s Artistic Director, are very happy with how this season has gone.
“We felt like there were a lot of new initiatives that we were able to put in, that were well received by the town. I think we definitely surpassed our expectations for how the year would end up.”
Richardson also says the community show, Oliver, was one of the best attended community performances the festival has put on.
