Rabies vaccination clinics will be in Prescott on Wednesday September 12th and 19th.
The clinics, in Prescott, are at the Public Works garage on 950 Sophia Street, North, from two to six that evening. The cost is $20 per animal, HST is included. Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies under the law.
Kim McCann is a Senior Public Health Inspector at the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit and says getting pets vaccinated can protect the animals and humans.
“Often times if a wild pet and your animal get into a scuffle and the wild animal has rabies, it can pass it on to your pet, but if your pet is vaccinated against rabies, then it’s protected and there in turn can protect us as humans.”
McCann says if a pet has been bitten by another animal definitely contact a veterinarian. If a human has been bitten by an animal, talk to a health care provider or contact the health unit at 613-345-5685, 1-800-660-5853 or visit their website healthunit.org.
