Brockville Ribfest Kicks Off Tomorrow

The 18th annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Brockville Ribfest begins at 11 a-m tomorrow.

Admission is free into Hardy Park. This year there will be eight ribbers on site and multiple non-food vendors.  Philip Deery is Vice President of Big Brothers Big Sisters and has been running Ribfest since 1992. He says two new ribbers will be at the event this year. Uncle Sam’s from New Mexico and Bone Daddy’s will join the six other ribbers.

Deery adds the money raised from the event goes right back to the community through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

People can still register for the rib eating contest, it’s 100 dollars for a team of four. The contest is to see which team can eat a rack of ribs the fastest. Registration is done through biggerevents.ca or by calling 613-345-0281.

Jane Fullarton is the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Leeds and Grenville. She says there will be fun for the whole family at this year’s event including a “Kops and Kids Fishing Derby” on Saturday Morning.

Other free, kids, activities include: bounce houses, face painting all weekend, arcade games, Rays Reptiles on Saturday and a balloon twister.

There will be live music every day of the festival, all day long. Fullarton says Jukebox Heroes are getting a lot of buzz. They are a Foreigner tribute band that will be playing on Saturday night.

Fullarton says 129,000 dollars was raised last year last year and helped 1,782 kids through the Big Brother Big Sisters agency. She also notes the need is great in the community as they are giving youths mentors and teaching them skills like sewing.

Brockville Ribfest runs until Sunday, August 12th. The event is rain or shine. For a complete schedule of events, click here.
