Motorists urged to clear snow and ice from vehicle roof

Police are urging drivers to clear snow and ice off their vehicles after several near-misses in Leeds County. Over the past week police have responded to a number of complaints from drivers who have had pieces of airborne slabs of ice crash onto their vehicles. The ice slid off the vehicles in front of them.

No one was hurt in the incidents but there was property damage. Flying ice can cause secondary collisions when the windshield shatters and the driver can no longer see to drive. Snow that slides off an un-cleared vehicle can have the same effect. OPP Inspector Jeff Smith leaving ice on your car because it inconveniences you is irresponsible. It may result in a fine or worse, serious injury.
