Business Of The Year Nomination Deadline Coming Up In Elizabethtown-Kitley

Businesses in Elizabethtown-Kitley Township have until Monday (August 6th) to be nominated for the Business of the Year Award.

This year marks the 24th year of the award and Alison Merkley, who is the Deputy Clerk for Elizabethtown-Kitley, says the only requirement for a nomination is that the business is within the Elizabethtown-Kitley Township.

Merkely says there is different factors for selecting a winner including community involvement and their impact in the community. They have minimal requirements to generate as much interest as possible for qualifying. Merkley notes this provides a great opportunity to celebrate the businesses in the town.

Businesses are welcome to self-nominate.

To nominate a business email the submission to [email protected] The business name and why they’re being nominated must be included in the submission. A submission can include first hand accounts or how the business has made an impact.

On the Tuesday, after the deadline, the submissions will be collected and summaries will be prepared to be presented to the Economic Development Committee who make the selection of who will win the award.

There will be a luncheon for all of the businesses who are nominated and anyone else from the public are welcome to attend. A plaque will be presented to the winner there and they will be celebrated for their contribution. A definite date has not been set for the luncheon but Merkley says it will happen in late September or early October.

Past winners include the The Brockville Speedway in 2017 and Billings Automotive in 2016. Merkley says the businesses that have won are from a variety of different streams like agricultural, trade persons, construction companies etc.
